Project Rebirth Selects SLI Systems to Help Researchers Better Search for "Ground Zero" Data

SLI Systems Learning Search™ indexes thousands of news articles, film clips and photos on 9/11 and World Trade Center Site Rebuild

CUPERTINO, CA -- January 25, 2006 -- SLI Systems, Inc., a provider of on-demand search services for Internet and e-commerce sites, today announced that Project Rebirth, a non-profit organization that is documenting the reconstruction of the World Trade Center in New York City, is using SLI Systems' Learning Search™ hosted site search solution to help users find valuable information related to the reconstruction and 9/11.

The Project Rebirth website (www.projectrebirth.org) is a premier information site featuring daily news, film and photos about the Ground Zero rebuild. It also serves as a general destination site for people looking for archival data about 9/11 and the World Trade Center, and has become a vehicle both for sponsors to show how their contributions benefit the reconstruction effort and for Project Rebirth to attract new sponsors.

The Project Rebirth management team wanted to include powerful internal and external search capabilities on the site to make it easy for people to search through the volumes of data to find what they're looking for. They chose SLI Systems' Learning Search for its superior search algorithm and indexing features and because it allows users to locate pages deep within the content-rich site, providing them with an index of the results according to site sections. Learning Search also suggests related search terms to Project Rebirth users to help them find additional information - a benefit that even the major search engines do not offer.

"SLI gave us a way to get more people to specific pages in our site, and obtain more granular detail," said Katharine English, general manager and editorial director for Project Rebirth's website. "We've noticed a huge uptake in people forwarding pages to friends."

When users perform a search for "Ground Zero" for example, Learning Search automatically shows how many assets exist and in what categories. Since SLI Systems' patented search technology continuously "learns" from the behavior of visitors over time to deliver more relevant results, it organizes results based on the most popular items others have clicked on.

After optimizing their website for natural searches in early September, Project Rebirth experienced a 300 percent increase in search referrals. The site now receives 60,000 unique visitors per month, who spend an average of 11-12 minutes on the site and view 5-7 pages on every visit.

SLI Systems' Learning Search also helps users find deep content stored within Project Rebirth's archives, including film and video with Flash components, and indexes search results by media type. Prior to using Learning Search, the lack of a suitable site hierarchy made it difficult to find all available assets. Additionally, SLI Systems' search algorithm factors in highly technical terms and complicated spellings of people's names, and provides the correct results even if users don't enter them properly.

"SLI Systems is proud to be supporting the work of Project Rebirth in helping people stay informed about the World Trade Center reconstruction project and understanding the impact of 9/11," said Dr. Shaun Ryan, CEO of SLI Systems. "By offering our search technology to help visitors find historical information and project updates more quickly, we feel honored to be doing our part to help this important project succeed."
