Former RetailNext and Verisign Executive Named Chief Marketing Officer at SLI Systems

Tim Callan Brings Deep Online Experience and Proven Track Record to Top IR100 SaaS-based Site Search Provider

SAN JOSE, CA – December 12, 2013 SLI Systems (www.sli-systems.com) (NZX: SLI) – today announced that Tim Callan has been named Chief Marketing Officer. Based in the company’s North American headquarters in San Jose, Calif., Callan will be focused on driving sales growth within the e-commerce sector and increasing SLI’s market share with its Software as a Service (SaaS)-based search and navigation offerings.

Callan has several years of experience working with market-leading retail and web technology companies, having served as CMO at RetailNext, a leading provider of in-store Big Data and analytics solutions; and as former VP of marketing for online security leader Verisign. Callan also sits on the board of IT security company DigiCert and has served on the board of the Online Trust Alliance, a vendor-neutral organization dedicated to creating a more trustworthy online ecosystem.
“Tim is a great leader and marketing veteran whose expertise will take SLI to the next level, and I’m thrilled to announce his addition to our executive team,” said Shaun Ryan, CEO of SLI Systems. “His track record with disruptive technologies provides him with the experience and insights he needs to help SLI introduce new, better eCommerce practices to the world. SLI is at a critical stage of growth, and Tim will be instrumental to helping establish us firmly as the top industry provider.”
Before joining SLI, Callan served as CMO at RetailNext, where he led and managed all marketing activity for the “first and best” technology provider in the emerging in-store analytics category.
Prior to that, he was founding member of CA/Browser Forum, the industry standards body that created the Extended Validation SSL standard. While there he introduced Extended Validation SSL to the world and drove acceptance of this new security technology as the de facto standard for top shelf online security.
Callan also served as VP of marketing at Verisign, where he led the creation and launch of the Verisign Secured seal, which grew to be the internet’s most displayed and recognized online trust seal, established Verisign’s logo and brand identity, and instituted the now common practice of displaying security seals on websites. Symantec subsequently acquired the Verisign Trust Services business for $1.3 billion.
A 20-year technology industry veteran, Callan also held marketing executive positions at Melbourne IT Digital Brand Services, and Caere, which later became Nuance.
“I am inspired by the possibilities before me at SLI Systems,” said Callan. “The eCommerce industry is always hungry for new capabilities to connect shoppers with the products they want to buy. By offering fundamentally better search, navigation, and SEO results, SLI services frequently increase sales 10% or more. I’m excited to have the opportunity to help all online retailers take advantage of these best practices.”
